Locavore: a person who only eats food that is grown or produced
in their local area.

One of our greatest passions at Guardswell is showcasing truly wonderful food, that has been grown or produced in the most ethical, sustainable, considered, high welfare way - and the magnificent people who produce it, as well as those who cook with it. In 2018 we launched our “Locavore” suppers- a series of dinners at which different chefs or restaurants cooked, show-casing the best in local producers- and the opportunity for those producers to stand up and tell a little of their story.

Tarmachan Cafe

Tarmachan is a café and event space nestled in the cairngorms, in a converted disused quarry space, that has since come to life surrounded by nature. Tom, Caitlin and Ben opened the doors in September 2020, with a passion for top quality coffee, sourdough bread, banging ingredients to enjoy surrounded by some epic architecture.
 

We have always aimed to showcase the wonderful selection of local quality produce we have to offer in North east Scotland, some foraged, some grown on local regenerative farms, but all cared for from ground to plate. Our menus may be small but they are curated with seasonally led ingredients, packed with flavour.

On top of the usual café goings on we have loved hosting our Summer rooftop feasts, where everyone comes together to enjoy a laid back evening of sharing plates, seasonal food cooked on an open fire, washed done with a lovely glass of biodynamic wine.
